Twine Drum Lid Saucer
From Daily Craft to Tea Ritual
Before it became an object, it was a rhythm of life.
The Twine Drum (麻线鼓 / Ma Xian Gu) was once a quiet companion in homes across Jiangsu and Zhejiang during the late Qing Dynasty. Families spun hemp thread by hand, moistening their fingers with water held in small grooves carved into these heavy clay drums. Practical, humble — and deeply human.
Traditionally, twine drums were made in pairs and dyed red, symbolizing auspiciousness, prosperity, and marriage blessings. When a daughter married, they traveled with her — not as decoration, but as part of daily life.
At Taiwu, we reimagine this form as a lid saucer for tea.
Placed beneath a gaiwan lid or teacup, it quietly anchors the tea table. Its weight brings stability. Its surface holds warmth. Its presence slows the moment.
This is not nostalgia.
It is continuity.
How It Feels
Solid. Calm. Grounded.
The clay carries a reassuring weight in the hand. The subtle grooves catch light and shadow, reminding you that this object was once shaped entirely around touch. On the tea table, it feels intentional — not precious, but meaningful.
Why It Fits Your Life
• A Forgotten Daily Object, Reborn
Once essential to home life, now gently woven into tea rituals.
• Naturally Functional

It doesn’t explain itself — it simply belongs.
This is for those who appreciate objects that feel lived-in from the first day.
