No chemical glue is used; all techniques follow traditional Japanese and Chinese lacquer craftsmanship.

 

Three learning paths are available based on your goals.


 

 

1. Kintsugi Trial Class (2 Hours)

——A perfect first taste of the craft.

 

A gentle introduction to authentic Kintsugi.

You will learn:

  • How to bond broken ceramics using natural urushi
  • The magic of lacquer’s natural curing process
  • Why ancient artisans said: “like glue, like lacquer”

Take home:

  • A piece you personally bonded (gold decoration not included)

 

 

2. Full Kintsugi Course (6 Sessions, 1.5–3 hrs each)

——Ideal for learners who want true mastery.

 

A complete and systematic journey.

You will learn:

  • Bonding broken pieces
  • Filling gaps and missing shards
  • Sanding, refining, applying gold
  • The entire traditional Kintsugi process

Take home:

  • A finished gold-repaired artwork

(You may bring your own broken piece)

 

3. Urushi Art Object Course (6 Sessions, 2–3 hrs + Unlimited Studio Time)

——Perfect for artistic exploration and deeper craft immersion.

 

A creative and advanced workshop.

You will learn:

  • Urushi-based ceramic repair
  • Paper-core jewelry making
  • Creating bowls or art objects with lacquer, cloth, and paper

FAQ — Lacquer Experience

What is Chinese lacquer (Da Qi)?

Chinese lacquer, known as Da Qi, is a natural resin extracted from the lacquer tree. It forms a durable surface with a soft, glowing finish and is used for repairing ceramics or creating handcrafted trays, jewelry, and decorative pieces.

Do I need to bring my own ceramic pieces?

For the short experience class, practice ceramics are provided, so bringing your own is not necessary. If you wish to repair your personal ceramic piece, please inform us in advance.

Is lacquer safe to use?

Yes. We use natural lacquer. Gloves and a well-ventilated workspace are provided, and the curing process produces only a mild odor.

Can lacquer replace glue?

Absolutely. We strictly use natural lacquer to bond ceramics, without any fast-drying glue.

Do I need prior painting or crafting skills?

No experience is required. The course guides you step by step, making it suitable for beginners.

Can I take my finished piece home?

Yes. All participants, from the short experience to the full course, can take their completed artworks home.

Are there opportunities for extended creation?

Yes. The full Kintsugi course and lacquer decorative courses provide unlimited studio access to complete your artwork.
